I "lost" my blog for about 2-3 months, and boy, do I have a lot of catching up to do.
Hermi and I picked black raspberries along our street on Friday. If you can imagine the two of us zooming along on my old beat up quad and stopping at every bush we saw you will have a good idea of what it was like. When we started out, I bunji-corded my bucket to the rack on the back of the quad. Of course it fell off and we had to go back to pick it up. (Belly laughs from the neighbors) Then the quad wouldn't shift out of third (this I blame on Chris), so we stayed in third all the way down the street. We found tons of berries, even a few bushes of those elusive golden raspberries, which we intend to go back to again. We may even dig a few canes up to add to the berries in my garden.
Saturday morning I made jam. I ended up with 8 pints. I finished just in time for Beth to arrive with Gabriel. We walked around the yard and garden, picking raspberries and checking out all the peaches on the tree. (It is loaded). Then we walked up the road to where I saw a bright blue snake that had been run over (I can't find anyone who can identify this snake) and walked down to the pond to throw in some rocks.
For supper we went to the festival in town. I won 2nd prize for my decorated paddle and my sister won 1st prize for hers. Gabriel especially liked the 4H booth where he could pet the pony and a big potbellied pig. Those animals were all over his sticky little cotton candy fingers!
This morning I got up at 6 so I could make a baked cheesecake. I managed to burn out the motor in my mixer so I ended up beating it by hand. It is just now out of the oven and it smells tremendous. Gabriel just woke up so I will fix him breakfast and then we will go out to mow the lawn. He love to ride my zero turn mower!
