The Hand of Devils

Well, it was 50 degrees today and it is supposed to snow tonight. What can I say? We had someone come out to get the pony today and what a rodeo! First off, Sammy does NOT like ropes. Never has, never will. But the only way to catch him was to rope him. He dragged two men (one over 300 lbs) around like nothing. They finally got the rope tangled around a tree and brought him up short. Then they had to bring the trailer in close and force him in. I know this sounds awful but this is a pony who can't stand to be near enough to anyone to touch. We have worked and worked with him for over a year and just nothing. Not one of us (for the last year) has hit, been rough or had anything like a rope on him. He still won't even let us do more than hold out a hand of feed and he would barely touch it with his mouth. When he started breaking down the electric fences we knew we couldn't keep him much longer. He would break the fence and take off down the road. And no way to get him back. We asked his new owners what their plans were and they said they broke ponies and rented them out for kiddie parties. We said "Good Luck!" They did seem like nice people, even when he was acting up. At least they weren't hitting him or kicking at him, etc., just pulling on his halter to make him move. I hope he will be alright, but he was just not for us.
